Microsoft will not close a loophole
that offers consumers a cheaper way to upgrade to Windows Vista. Users can install the upgrade version of the new operating system as a fresh installation , even if they do not currently own a licensed copy of Windows XP. Adobe, IBM, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Novell, RealNetworks and Red Hat are all backing the new Linux standards effort led by the Free Standards Group . The nonprofit organisation plans to marshal their resources to form standards for key components of Linux desktop software, including libraries, application runtime and install time.

I know I am not first to comment on this but these new features would rely on proprietary APIs. Let me say that again, Proprietary APIs! Isn't this what open source is all about, being OPEN. These services make no guarantees on the quality nor availability of their services.

LOL. Will Apple pay licences to Amiga Inc and to Hyperion to port and sell alternative OS for their hardware ? You must be joking. In real world Amiga Inc would pay to Hyperion to port AmigaOS into as many platforms as possible. This looks like a joke to me.
