One of the components of the GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) is GCJ, the GNU Compiler for the Java programming language. GCJ is a compiler that can generate both native code and bytecode from Java source files.

Recently, several representatives from Windows IT Pro Magazine received a briefing about the Beta 1 version of Longhorn Server, the next member of the Windows Server family, currently due in the first quarter of 2007, or about six months after Windows Vista ships in late 2006.

Good as well as bad news for Microsoft on the legal front. Their good news is that a judge has rejected Go Computing's claim that Microsoft used dirty tricks to keep it out of the operating system market.

Oh, and I also find quite funny the fact that the same persons taking for granted the fact they can ask their computer provider to change the hard drive, graphic card or the amount of ram in the system they're buying suddenly understand how unfeasible it would be to remove the OS.

There is a controversy in the Linux world. It doesn't have to do with Microsoft, or anything overtly technical. It may seem, to the outsider, the open source equivalent of the question, "Boxers or briefs?" But it's much more serious than that.

The model proposed in the article is bound to fail: Consumers in the software market choose by reputation, not by "solutions". This is rational; usually they have better things to do then comparing "solutions".
