Plans for an area of the internet dedicated to pornography were killed last night in a vote by overseeing organisation ICANN. In a split 9-5 board decision, the organisation acted ruthlessly, against its own previous position, in order to put an end to an increasingly difficult and controversial issue - the approval of a .xxx top-level domain.

The Ubuntu team is proud to announce version 7.04 of the Ubuntu family of distributions (more info here and here ). Ubuntu 7.04 is also the basis for new 7.04 releases of Kubuntu ( screenshots ) and Edubuntu. Ubuntu 7.04 will be supported for 18 months on both desktops and servers.

As promised, Microsoft on Tuesday issued nine separate security patches , fixing vulnerabilities in DirectX, Exchange, Internet Explorer, and Windows itself. Three of the fixes were deemed "critical," four "important," and two "moderate".

To help curb the growing number of waste contributed by bottled water- and soda-drinkers at the schools, Madison County Recycling this year began providing bins for recycled plastic bottles and Highland Recycling agreed to pick up recycled plastic at schools. Plastic is an enormous source of waste along with the cardboard.
