Roughly half of today's PCs won't be able to take advantage of the 'Aero Glass' compositor found within Microsoft's upcoming Vista software, due at the end of this year. The estimate was one of the conclusions cited in a report released late Thursday by Jon Peddie Research.

To help curb the growing number of waste contributed by bottled water- and soda-drinkers at the schools, Madison County Recycling this year began providing bins for recycled plastic bottles and Highland Recycling agreed to pick up recycled plastic at schools. Plastic is an enormous source of waste along with the cardboard.

The very first Apple computers, distributed nationwide in 1977, had a hood you could pry off to reveal the CPU, the memory, and the motherboard. But almost three decades later, the company that pioneered "open architecture" with the Apple II, even with thousands of admirers looking on, was reluctant to pry the back panel off its new Intel Core Duo-based iMacs and MacBook Pro portables.
