When computer company Apple announced that they were planning to make a phone, most pundits felt sure that Apple would produce something a bit different from the crowd. An Apple phone would have to be a plush, prestige unit and the product of a thoughtful design process.

Apple are learning as they go. They're in an area about which they have little knowledge and they're trying to provide a superior user experience. It's obvious that they need to protect the users so they don't end up with (more) bad press, such as where Paris Hilton's Sidekick had been hacked.
