When I volunteered to do this review I quickly realized that I was asked to review ' Red Hat Enterprise Linux Advanced Server ' and not just 'Red Hat Linux'. Then panic set in. How different was this going to be from regular old Red Hat that I've used and relied on for years?

When computer company Apple announced that they were planning to make a phone, most pundits felt sure that Apple would produce something a bit different from the crowd. An Apple phone would have to be a plush, prestige unit and the product of a thoughtful design process.

In 2002, both KDE and GNOME released their last major revisions; KDE released KDE 3.0 on 3rd April , while GNOME followed shortly after with GNOME 2.0 on 27th June . For the Linux desktop, therefore, 2002 was an important year.

In November this year, Sony will launch the PlayStation 3. Apparantly, Sony has high expectations for the Linux-powered device, and Sony even claims it will render the PC useless.
