Birth, one of the most important events of a marriage, was a reality for two families through technology this month. The births of Shayleigh Rybolt and Keaton Reynolds came about on July 11 and 24 respectively in the OB ward at St. Francis Hospital, Maryville.

CNBC had an interview with Steve Jobs . In the interview, Jobs talks about the new Apple store in New York which will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The interview is quite lightweight - Jobs doesn't reveal anything we haven't heard before and the questions aren't particularly incisive.

Knoppix, a Linux live CD, will boot a computer from the optical drive and give a slow but usable graphical user interface. The most recent version comes with Firefox and OpenOffice.org 2.0 Beta, so if you're already using the Windows equivalent, Knoppix is that much easier to pick up.

Microsoft acknowledged late Wednesday the existence of a zero-day exploit for Windows Metafile images, and said it was looking into ways to better protect its customers. Even worse, by the end of the day nearly 50 variants of the exploit had already appeared.
