Elpida to establish DRAM JV in China
Elpida Memory and China's Suzhou Venture Group (SVG) announced that they have agreed to establish a joint venture (JV) company by the end of 2008 to produce DRAM at a 12-inch wafer fab in Suzhou, China. Elpida plans to hold 39% of the shares that will be issued by the new joint venture company, with the remaining 61% to be held by SVG and the potential third-party investor(s).

Asustek notebook shipments fail target in 1H08; preps outsourcing in 4Q
Since shipments of notebooks failed to meet expectations in the first half of 2008, Asustek Computer has said meeting its annual shipments target will be hard. In order to shrink production costs, the company plans to bring forward outsourcing of notebooks, including Eee PCs, to the fourth quarter of 2008.
